About The Role
The role of a Data Engineer at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is a pivotal position within the organization’s data capabilities. As part of a dynamic team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting data collection, integration, and ETL applications. Your work will facilitate the availability of vital information to key stakeholders and technical interfaces, directly impacting the security and operational success of national and international clients. You will model data requirements, sources, and flows to bring structure and clarity to complex data programs, ensuring proper control over the lifecycle of corporate data assets. Your expertise will also extend to defining metadata for searchability and governance, including Records Management for unstructured data, thereby supporting data integrity, security, and compliance. This role offers a hybrid working environment with locations in London or Manchester, accommodating both full and part-time applicants, and provides an opportunity to contribute to projects that have a significant impact on national security and technological advancement.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data engineering, analysis, or science, with demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with various data engineering tools and technologies, including ETL platforms and Big Data applications. A deep understanding of open-source software for data engineering, coupled with the ability to evaluate and recommend suitable platforms for specific client problems, is essential. Candidates should have a solid knowledge of database concepts, including unstructured, NoSQL, and big data platforms, along with data modeling techniques. Experience working within cybersecurity or intelligence domains is advantageous but not mandatory. The role requires a proactive learner with adaptability and a willingness to develop expertise in new technologies and methodologies. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, candidates must hold an active eDV security clearance before applying.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support data collection, integration, and ETL applications to ensure data availability for stakeholders and technical systems.
- Model data requirements, data sources, and data flows to organize and streamline complex data programs.
- Define data creation, mastering, and destruction processes to maintain control over data lifecycle management.
- Utilize and evaluate data products for collecting, integrating, storing, visualizing, and governing data and metadata.
- Develop and define metadata standards to enhance searchability, governance, and records management for unstructured data.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to implement scalable data solutions aligned with organizational objectives.
- Continuously evaluate emerging data engineering tools and technologies to optimize system performance and security.
- Ensure compliance with data security standards and support data governance initiatives across projects.
