Salary Range
£53,000 – £71,000
Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.
About the Role
At Leonardo UK, you’ll help shape and strengthen the organisation’s data capabilities by building scalable, reliable, and future-ready data solutions that enable informed decision-making across the business. As a Data Engineer, you’ll thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment where innovation, automation, and data integrity are central to success.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines to support the ingestion, transformation, validation, and delivery of data across multiple systems and platforms.
- Manage and optimise enterprise data environments, including cloud-based data warehouses and lakes such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, and Azure Synapse, ensuring high levels of scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with Data Science, Business Intelligence, and Engineering teams to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and aligned to business objectives.
- Partner with stakeholders across the organisation to gather reporting and analytics requirements, translating business needs into effective and sustainable data solutions.
- Automate data integration, orchestration, and monitoring workflows using modern tools and frameworks including Python, Dagster, and Azure Data Factory.
- Support dashboard and reporting solutions across platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, and Looker, ensuring semantic consistency and trusted outputs.
- Maintain high-quality documentation and governance standards to ensure traceability, reproducibility, and compliance across data assets, pipelines, and processes.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve data architecture, operational efficiency, and engineering best practices within the broader data ecosystem.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
