Job Description
Visa is accelerating the delivery of data analytics and AI-powered products to drive client growth and strategic decision-making across European markets. We’re seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop, and evolve scalable data engineering capabilities that support Data Science, AI products, and client-facing solutions for all European operations.
This role requires:
- Translating business needs into robust data models
- Building and maintaining resilient data pipelines
- Optimizing large-scale ETL processes for structured and unstructured datasets
- Collaborating cross-functionally to align data solutions with client objectives
- Proven expertise in big data tools (Hadoop, Hive, Spark), Python, SQL, and strong analytical skills

Requirement Analysis:
- Translate complex business needs into scalable, long-term data models
- Define and implement data strategies to support regional and operational goals

Data Pipeline Development:
- Build, manage, and deploy large-scale ETL processes to generate high-quality data assets
- Develop modular and reusable code, prioritizing configurability and scalability
- Design efficient workflows using Apache Airflow, including DAG management and scheduling

Data Quality & Performance:
- Ensure end-to-end data quality control through monitoring and reconciliation across pipeline stages
- Implement automated data checks and reconciliation frameworks
- Utilize analytical skills to identify, discuss, and resolve data issues swiftly
- Apply debugging techniques to minimize disruption to business operations

Collaboration & Ensure:
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements
- Maintain high standards of quality and precision in all daily tasks
This role operates as a hybrid position, requiring 3 days/week in-office attendance at our London office.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in:
- Building data pipelines (ETL workflows) using Hive, PySpark, SQL, and Unix
- Optimizing SQL queries in big data environments
- Working in Linux/Unix environments with command-line tools
- Experience with production software/systems, including bottleneck identification and resolution
- Familiarity with code version control (e.g., Git, GitHub)
- Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Exposure to agentic coding tools and basic GenAI-based application workloads
- Ability to translate diverse business domains into technical solutions
- Understands agile methodologies and program management
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) and designing reliable data workflows
- Knowledge of data quality frameworks and data observability practices (e.g., automated checks, reconciliation)
- Demonstrates strong communication and presentation skills to engage cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related technical field
- Experience with visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
- Background in Financial Services or Payments Industry
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) and release automation
