Data Engineer
Location: Bolton - flexible/ remote working options
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
We're working with a growing, technology-driven organisation looking to appoint an experienced Data Engineer to lead the build of a brand-new cloud-based data warehouse from the ground up.
This is a genuine greenfield opportunity, offering the chance to design and deliver a modern data platform that will underpin the company's future reporting and analytics capabilities. You'll play a key role in shaping the architecture, technology choices and engineering best practices from day one.
The Role
As a Data Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, building and maintaining a scalable cloud data platform that integrates data from multiple business systems into a trusted, high-quality source for reporting and analytics.
Working closely with technical teams and business stakeholders, you'll help deliver robust data pipelines, improve data quality and governance, and support the organisation's long-term data strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of a greenfield cloud data warehouse
- Build and maintain a modern cloud-based data platform using Azure or AWS
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines to integrate data from multiple operational systems
- Create scalable, reliable and high-performing data solutions for reporting and analytics
- Improve data quality, governance and architecture across the business
- Evaluate existing data infrastructure, identifying opportunities for optimisation and modernisation
- Support reporting teams by delivering clean, trusted datasets
- Collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders to understand data requirements
- Produce clear technical documentation and follow engineering best practices

About You
You'll be an experienced Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and building scalable data solutions.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience delivering a greenfield cloud data warehouse project from the ground up
- Considerable experience in Data Engineering or a similar role
- Strong SQL skills and query optimisation experience
- Experience building cloud-based data platforms in Azure or AWS
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and modern data warehousing principles
- Data modelling and data governance experience
- Experience with Power BI or other BI/reporting tools
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable
- Microsoft Fabric experience (highly desirable but not essential)
- Azure Data Factory, Synapse or Databricks
- Experience with ERP or eCommerce data
- Master Data Management (MDM)
- DevOps or CI/CD experience
