About The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Contract Data Engineer to join our client's team based in London on a hybrid working model. This role is pivotal in supporting business-as-usual (BAU) activities while actively participating in a critical data migration project. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders to understand their data requirements, perform comprehensive gap analysis, and develop robust ETL and data integration solutions primarily using Talend. This position offers an immediate start and is initially contracted for six months, with potential for extension based on project needs and performance.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in data engineering, with hands-on experience in SQL, data migration, and systems integration. They should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and capable of translating business requirements into technical solutions. The role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects in a dynamic setting, leveraging your expertise to ensure seamless data flows and system interoperability.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, preferably within a data migration or integration project
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with experience working on Oracle or SQL Server databases
  • Hands-on experience with Talend or other ETL tools
  • Knowledge of Linux environments and shell scripting
  • Experience with data migration, systems integration, and requirements gathering
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain BAU data activities, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and availability
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather detailed requirements and understand data needs
  • Perform gap analysis to identify discrepancies between current and desired data states
  • Design, develop, and implement ETL processes and data integration solutions using Talend
  • Participate actively in the data migration project, ensuring timely and efficient data transfer between systems
  • Develop and maintain scripts and workflows in Linux and Shell to automate data processes
  • Monitor data pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance
  • Document technical specifications, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies related to data engineering
