This role blends hands on technical leadership with emerging people management responsibilities, making it ideal for someone looking to progress into a full Engineering Manager role.

You will lead a team of four data engineers (2 Senior, 2 Data Engineers), shaping the technical direction of our GCP based platform while ensuring high quality delivery across multiple workstreams. You will design and implement scalable systems, frameworks and processes that improve the long term reliability and simplicity of our data estate.

You will work closely with cross functional teams including other data teams, Product and Engineering to ensure alignment, reduce coordination cost and deliver a platform that enables high quality insights and innovation.

  • Run daily stand-ups using agile methodologies to maintain high team engagement and efficient project execution.
  • Set individual objectives and develop personal development plans for the team, supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

Platform Strategy & Technical Leadership

  • Provide hands on technical contribution across GCP, BigQuery, dbt, Airflow and Python, supporting the team in designing and building scalable, reliable data pipelines and models.
  • Ensure the team maintains a clear technical roadmap, outlining future development direction, platform improvements and long-term sustainability.
  • Drive core engineering processes (code reviews, design discussions, incident reviews, quality standards) to ensure consistent, high quality delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and improve the technical estate.
  • Collaborate with upstream engineering teams to ensure high quality data ingestion and alignment on architectural patterns.
  • Champion platform observability, ensuring robust monitoring, alerting and data quality practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and the pet insurance industry, implementing new methodologies, tools and frameworks to enhance data processes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
