About the Role
At Canopius, our delivery teams ensure that business users can effectively leverage data insights to drive strategic decision making. Our data strategy is built around an enterprise Lakehouse platform on Databricks, preventing fragmented, ungoverned silos on legacy technologies that restrict creativity and scalability. We are creating a governed, interoperable data estate, empowering self-service analytics and enabling advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to drive change across the industry.
The Opportunity
The Data Governance Analyst plays a key role in maintaining and improving data governance across Canopius, ensuring data consistency, trustworthiness, control, and alignment across the organisation. Reporting into the Data Governance team, this critical role partners with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and other governance functions to embed:
- Policies and standards
- Metadata management
- Data lineage
- Business definitions
- Data quality practices
across all business domains.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance Administration & Maintenance
- Administer and maintain our Data Governance toolset, ensuring:
- Metadata, business glossary content, data ownership, and classifications remain accurate and up to date.
- Supporting governance artefacts are maintained effectively.
- Contribute to governance forums, working groups, and issue management, ensuring projects and teams adhere to data policies and standards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance Support
- Work closely with business and technology teams to embed data governance best practices.
- Clarify complex technical terms and provide clear guidance, improving the data-led culture within Canopius.
Desired Experience & Skills
Essential Qualifications
- Strong analytical mindset with exemplary attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.
- Practical experience in data governance, including:
- Metadata management
- Data quality practices
- Business glossary maintenance
- Continuous improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proactive, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
Advantageous Experience
- Insurance industry knowledge, particularly within the Lloyd’s market.
- Hands-on experience with governance tooling such as Alation, Collibra, or Informatica.
