The Data Governance Analyst supports the establishment and operation of effective data governance across Canopius, ensuring data is well-defined, trusted, controlled, and consistently used enterprise-wide. Partnering with Data Owners, Data Stewards, and governance functions, this role focuses on embedding policies, standards, metadata, lineage, business definitions, and data quality practices across all business domains.

- Supporting governance forums, working groups, data issue management, and reporting to help projects and business teams demonstrate compliance with data policies.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to drive a stronger data-led culture and improve the governance of data across the organisation.
The ideal candidate is an analytical, detail-oriented data professional passionate about fostering a stronger data culture and improving governance. You should possess:
- Strong data analysis and Excel skills, with a solid understanding of data governance principles.
- Experience using governance tooling to manage metadata, data quality, business glossaries, and continuous improvement.
- Expertise in insurance data, particularly Lloyd’s market data, would be advantageous.
Responsibilities

- Administer Data Governance toolsets, defining processes to ensure metadata, lineage, and business glossary content remain accurate, complete, and governed.
- Capture, document, and standardise business definitions, key data elements, and data ownership (e.g., glossary, data dictionary).
- Support the Business Glossary application, integrating business feedback to enhance usability, adoption, and alignment with governance requirements.
- Collaborate with Data Owners and Stewards to develop, document, and maintain data standards, classifications, and governance artefacts.
- Monitor compliance with data governance policies, providing subject-matter expertise to business and technical stakeholders.
- Attend governance forums and working groups, driving adoption of data governance practices.
- Promote a data-led culture through training, communication, and engagement on data governance, policies, and roadmaps.
- Publish management information on data governance activity, risks, and outcomes.
- Manage data incidents by capturing, escalating, and resolving issues through governance forums while maintaining the Data Risk Register and incident logs.
- Engage with cross-functional teams (Risk, Information Security, Compliance) to identify, assess, and address data issues.
- Prioritise workload effectively, in line with team, departmental, and business objectives.
- Undertake ad-hoc duties as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
