About Kaizen

Kaizen Search Marketing is a forward-thinking digital marketing agency specialising in SEO, Digital PR, and Social Media.

Job Summary

You will be responsible for developing data-led campaigns across a range of industries, using your expertise in research methodologies, data sourcing, analysis, and storytelling to create compelling narratives that journalists want to cover.

You will have an expansive knowledge of data sources, from government datasets and public records to APIs, scraping tools, and emerging AI-powered research methods. You will use these skills to uncover unique insights, challenge campaign briefs, and identify opportunities that elevate ideas from good to genuinely newsworthy.

Working closely with our PR, Creative, and Client teams, you will play a key role in shaping campaign concepts, ensuring our data methodologies are robust, creative, and capable of generating high-quality media coverage for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Data Research & Campaign Development

  • Lead the research and data development process for Digital PR campaigns, turning client objectives into compelling data-led stories
  • Work closely with PR teams during ideation to identify opportunities where data can strengthen, challenge, or transform creative concepts
  • Challenge campaign briefs and methodologies to ensure we are creating the strongest possible story for the media
  • Identify unique angles, trends, and narratives hidden within datasets to create campaigns with genuine news value
  • Build robust research methodologies that can withstand journalist scrutiny and deliver credible insights

Data Sourcing & Analysis

  • Source, clean, analyse, and interpret large datasets to uncover meaningful insights
  • Explore creative approaches to data collection, including scraping, automation, and alternative research methods

Technical Data Skills & Innovation

  • Use tools such as Python, SQL, APIs, scraping tools, and automation platforms to improve the efficiency and scalability of data collection and analysis
  • Explore emerging AI tools and workflows to enhance research processes, identify trends, and accelerate campaign development
  • Stay ahead of developments in data, AI, and research methodologies to bring innovative approaches into our campaigns

PR Storytelling & Media Understanding

  • Apply a strong understanding of news values to ensure data insights translate into compelling media stories
  • Understand what makes journalists engage with data stories and advise teams on how to position findings effectively
  • Support the creation of campaign narratives, supporting statistics, and media materials
  • Monitor industry trends and news cycles to identify opportunities for reactive and proactive data campaigns

Team Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

  • Provide guidance and training to the wider PR team on data sourcing, methodology, and research best practice
  • Share new data sources, tools, and techniques to continuously improve Kaizen’s data capabilities

Quality & Delivery

  • Deliver accurate, high-quality research projects within agreed deadlines

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a data, research, insights, analytics, or data journalism role
  • Strong understanding of how to source, analyse, and interpret data to uncover stories and insights
  • Experience working with datasets, research methodologies, and statistical analysis
  • Excellent understanding of what makes a strong PR story or newsworthy insight
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and methodology
  • Experience using data tools such as Excel/Google Sheets, SQL, Python, APIs, or scraping tools

Desirable

  • Experience working within Digital PR, content marketing, journalism, or a creative agency environment
  • Experience creating data-led campaigns that have achieved media coverage
  • Experience using AI tools to improve research workflows
  • Knowledge of SEO, search trends, and how content performs online
  • Experience presenting insights and recommendations to clients or internal stakeholders

Personal Specification

  • Able to commute to our London office 2 days a week
  • Creative thinker with the ability to think on your feet
  • Strong understanding of the news and latest trends
  • Team player who is motivated by working with others and a strong communicator
  • High attention to detail and pride in your output – your work will be visible to thousands of people
  • Experience in a PR or digital role will be a bonus but is not essential
  • Organised with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously
