Senior Data Engineer & Data Team Lead (Head of Engineering)
LendInvest is the UK’s leading FinTech platform for property finance. Over the past 17 years, we’ve grown from two founders to a team of over 200, lending over £9 billion in mortgages. Our culture of innovation, execution, and fun has helped put thousands of homes on the market and taken us public with a London Stock Exchange listing. Now, we’re building on our success with bold plans to expand our products, technology, and people.
About the Role
This critical "doer-leader" position reports to the Head of Engineering. The role blends technical ownership with leadership, enabling you to stabilise and remediate our data foundations while building a long-term data strategy. Ideal for:
- A Senior or Lead Data Engineer ready to lead project teams
- A Data Team Lead seeking a new challenge
You’ll start as a hands-on technical lead, transitioning to full ownership of the data platform, scaling our internal team (initially hiring 1-2 engineers) and solidifying our data integrity.
Your Mission
You’ll take on a complex, inherited architectural landscape as part of the 2026 Data Transformation Programme, collaborating across engineering, architecture, and external partners. Initially focused on troubleshooting ingestion issues, you’ll later own the platform, ensuring scalable, maintainable practices and improving confidence in all data-driven decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee a multi-faceted data ecosystem, balancing legacy challenges with forward-looking improvements:
- Partner with external specialists to resolve ingestion failures and correct silent data mutations.
- Transition from partner-led delivery to a sustainable internal run model—transferring knowledge, documenting processes, and embedding them within the team.
- Improve data integrity, trust, and observability by:
- Automating manual reconciliations
- Implementing validation frameworks and comprehensive testing
- Tracing and being accountable for data lineage
- Incrementally modernise the data platform by:
- Optimising workflows for performance and reliability
- Shifting the team’s reliance from external providers
- Enhancing governance across integrations and analytics
- Scale an internal data engineering team by building hiring processes, defining standards, and mentoring analysts for a governed, high-trust insight culture.
- Work closely with analysts, product managers, and engineers to align data solutions with business needs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
