Data Loss Prevention Specialist

Job Title: Data Loss Prevention Specialist

Contract Type: Permanent Location: Edinburgh / Glasgow / Alderley Edge Working Style: Hybrid (50% home/office)


Royal London’s Security Operations team is expanding with exciting opportunities for a Data Loss Prevention Specialist.

In this critical role, you’ll monitor and manage potential and real data loss events across key business areas. You’ll lead investigations, collaborate with Cyber Security, IT, Legal, and Compliance, and drive improvements in detection, reporting, and policy enforcement to strengthen data protection and regulatory compliance.


About the Role

Core Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to DLP alerts and security events
  • Lead investigations into alerts, distinguishing genuine risks from false positives
  • Identify potential data leaks and unauthorised data transfers
  • Oversee incident response and reporting for Data Loss events
  • Support investigations into data breaches and document findings for remediation
  • Produce reports for security teams, management, and compliance.

Policy & System Management

  • Maintain and optimise DLP policies and rules
  • Collaborate with business teams to ensure practical and effective data protection
  • Spot trends in data handling risks and suggest process/tool improvements
  • Stay updated on emerging threats and evolving data protection practices

About You

We’re seeking candidates with the following experience and skills:

Technical & Operational:

  • Hands-on Data Loss Prevention (DLP) or Security Operations experience
  • Experience managing Microsoft Purview or similar tools
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 security and cloud security tools
  • Knowledge of insider risk, digital forensics/cyber threat hunting

Investigation & Improvement:

  • Leadership in conducting complex investigations ( fraud/whistleblowing preferred)
  • Ability to refine detection use cases or improve alert quality
  • Exposure to employee monitoring and privacy laws (GDPR, etc.)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to deliver security awareness/prevention initiatives
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset

Certifications & Compliance:

  • Relevant certifications (Security+, CCSP, CISSP, Microsoft SC-400)
  • Prior experience in a SOC or operational security role.
