Data Management & Governance Specialist – Fixed-Term Contract (12 Months)
Location: London
Hours & Flexibility
- Core Hours: 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday
- Flexible Applications Considered
- Office Days: 40–60% in the office
About the Role
We’re establishing a new Data Management & Governance Specialist role within our Data team, offering the chance to shape how the firm manages, secures, and utilises its data effectively. Ideal for someone with a pragmatic, hands-on approach to building robust data foundations—improving quality, reliability, and accessibility—while supporting critical data protection obligations alongside the Data Protection Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance & Foundations
- Build and embed firm-wide data governance processes, ensuring consistency and compliance
- Develop and maintain the data catalogue, business glossary, and metadata standards
- Define frameworks for data ownership, stewardship, lineage, and data classification
- Support the implementation and optimisation of a data catalogue platform
Data Quality
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and implement data quality rules
- Identify data quality issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive remediation
- Monitor and report on data quality trends, improving data capture and lifecycle management

Data Protection Support
- Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs)
- Support breach investigations and incident response efforts
- Help maintain accurate Records of Processing Activities (ROPA)
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner across teams—including Legal, Compliance, and Information Security—to align data practices
- Translate complex data concepts into clear, actionable guidance
- Deliver awareness sessions and training to promote best practice data management
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in roles related to data governance, data management, or data quality
- Strong understanding of core data principles (e.g., metadata, lineage, stewardship)
- Pragmatic approach with influencing capabilities to guide non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to communicate effectively across technical and operational teams
Desirable
- Exposure to data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation)
- Experience with data protection activities (e.g., DPIAs, DSARs)
- Familiarity with modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Microsoft Fabric)
- Background in regulated environments, preferably within legal or professional services
