Senior Data Engineer (Data Modelling)

UK Remote-First (occasional travel to parks, head office and team events)

Permanent | Full Time

Competitive salary + bonus and benefits

About the Role

Do you think in facts and dimensions? Are you the kind of engineer who gets a genuine kick out of designing a clean, well-structured data model - one that turns messy source data into something the whole business can trust and use? If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you!

At Haven, great holidays are powered by great data - and behind every dashboard, forecast and guest insight sits a data model that someone thought carefully about. That someone could be you. As a Senior Data Engineer (Data Modelling), you'll be a specialist at the heart of our data engineering community, focused squarely on the craft of dimensional modelling and the semantic layer that turns raw data into a source of truth our teams rely on every day.

But the best models don't start in dbt - they start with a conversation. The part of this role that matters most is your ability to sit with the business, understand how guests, bookings, parks and revenue actually work, and translate that real-world process into a clear, domain-aligned dimensional model. It's the rarest and most valuable skill in modelling, and it's the one we care about most.

From there, you'll spend your time designing and evolving Kimball-style models, building elegant transformations in dbt, and shaping the way our business understands its guests and operations. Working within a supportive squad, you'll set the standard for modelling quality through your own work, share what you know with fellow engineers, and continue to grow your craft in a collaborative, remote-first environment where curiosity is celebrated.

This is a hands-on, deeply technical role for a data modeller who cares about data quality, clarity and craft - and who wants their work to make a tangible difference to millions of guest experiences every year.

Your Opportunity

  • Translate business process into models. Sit with the business to understand how guests, bookings, revenue and operations really work - then translate that process into intuitive, domain-aligned dimensional models that stand the test of time.
  • Model with Kimball methodology. Design, build and evolve dimensional data models, getting the grain right first and building for the way the business will grow.
  • Build the dbt layer. Craft the transformation and semantic layer in dbt that turns raw source data into trusted, well-documented business truth.
  • Champion quality. Make data quality, testing and documentation first-class parts of the modelling craft.
  • Set the standard. Share your modelling patterns, techniques and thinking with fellow engineers, setting the standard through the quality of your own work.
  • Shape the trade-offs. Bring a strong, well-reasoned point of view on modelling trade-offs into product and engineering conversations.
  • Communicate clearly. Explain your design decisions to both technical and nontechnical audiences, so the whole business understands the model it relies on.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we'd like you to bring

Essential

  • Deep dimensional modelling experience. Several years of hands-on Kimball modelling on production warehouses that a business genuinely relies on - this is the heart of the role.
  • Business-to-model translation. A real feel for turning business process into a data model: talking to stakeholders, uncovering the true grain, and shaping a domain that makes sense to the people who use it.
  • Strong SQL and dbt. Deep, practical experience with dbt as your modelling toolkit.
  • The instincts of an experienced modeller. You know when to reach for a conformed dimension, how to handle slowly-changing dimensions and late-arriving facts, why grain declaration comes first, and how a bus matrix keeps a warehouse coherent as it grows.
  • A genuine passion for the craft. Clean design, sensible grain, thoughtful naming, and models that stand up to real-world use.

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of Snowflake (our cloud data platform), and comfort with scheduling and orchestration tools such as Airflow.
  • Familiarity with testing (TDD), DevOps and CI/CD as applied to analytics engineering workflows.
  • Confident use of Python where it supports the modelling work, and comfort managing your own local development environment.
  • An eye for using AI coding tools thoughtfully - to accelerate delivery without ever compromising quality.

And whoever you are, we'd love you to bring

  • Excellent personal time management and self-direction - essential for thriving in a remote-first setup.
  • A curious, collaborative, detail-oriented mindset with a strong desire to share and contribute across squads and cross-functional teams.

You'll be part of a forward-thinking data community where craft matters, curiosity is celebrated, and the models you build will directly shape holidays enjoyed by millions of guests every year.
