Senior Data Modeler / Architect (Insurance)

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Data Modeler / Architect with strong knowledge of insurance industry standards and a solid foundation in modern data modelling practices.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with:

  • Modelling tools
  • Data frameworks
  • Insurance industry data exchange standards

This role involves designing scalable, compliant, and high-quality data structures that support:

  • Enterprise analytics
  • Regulatory reporting
  • Operational data needs

RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Data Design & Implementation

  • Design and maintain enterprise-wide data models (conceptual, logical, physical) for:

    • Analytics
    • Operational reporting
    • Regulatory compliance
    • Integration use cases
  • Own the design of canonical data models for delegated insurance, covering:

    • Contract
    • Premium/Risk
    • Claims
    • Full transaction and movement-based constructs (e.g., endorsements, cancellations, reinstatements, claim financial movements)

Schema & Integration Processes

  • Translate conceptual and logical models into implementation-ready artefacts:
    • JSON/XML schemas
    • Excel bordereaux templates
    • Support for real-time API ingestion from MGA/TPA systems
    • Monthly bordereaux submissions

Modelling Methodologies

  • Develop data models using:
    • Dimensional (Star/Snowflake)
    • Data Vault
    • Third Normal Form (3NF)

Metadata & Governance

  • Create and manage metadata and modelling artefacts using Erwin, including:
    • Traceability
    • Governance

Data Lake & Architecture Support

  • Support Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) across ingestion and curation layers
  • Collaborate with engineering to implement models on Databricks and Unity Catalog

Regulatory & Compliance Alignment

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • GDPR
    • Solvency II
    • Lloyd’s reporting requirements
    • MAR/SOX controls through documentation and validation
  • Align with ACORD and CSIO data standards for:

    • Global and Canadian insurance data exchange

Standardisation & Collaboration

  • Align modelling standards with GSI Data Target Operating Model (TOM) and:
    • Partner Management & Data Intake workstreams
    • Act as architectural authority for delegated data standards

Vendor & Partner Integration

  • Provide architectural oversight during partner onboarding, including:
    • Mapping
    • Validation
    • Exception handling
    • Change control

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

Industry Standards

  • Knowledge of:
    • ACORD (global, comprehensive insurance data standards)
    • CSIO (Canadian insurance standards: XML, EDI, JSON formats)

Tools & Platforms

  • Mandatory:
    • Erwin Data Modeler
  • Familiarity with:
    • Medallion Data Architecture
    • Databricks & Unity Catalog
    • MAR/SOX data governance
    • GDPR, Solvency II, Lloyd’s reporting frameworks

Modelling Techniques

  • Dimensional Modelling:
    • Star schemas
    • Snowflake schemas
  • Data Vault Modelling
  • Third Normal Form (3NF) relational modelling
  • JSON/XMLSchema

Optional / Nice to Have

  • Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) or Reference Data Management (RDM)
