Data Modeller - 6 Month Contract - Hybrid (Glasgow 2 days pw) - Inside IR35
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality data models and datamarts that support analytical and reporting needs. They will translate business requirements into scalable, performant, and well-structured data models that enable efficient consumption in Power BI and other reporting tools.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary Agile delivery team, you will ensure that data structures are robust, governed, and aligned with organisational data standards and architecture principles.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
Demonstrable experience of:
- Designing and developing dimensional data models and datamarts to support reporting and analytics use cases
- Translating business requirements and user stories into logical and physical data models aligned to reporting needs
- Applying best-practice dimensional modelling techniques to optimise usability and performance
- Collaborating with Data Engineers to ensure data pipelines and transformations deliver clean, reliable, and appropriately structured data
- Defining and maintaining data definitions, metadata, and data dictionaries to support consistent understanding and reuse
- Ensuring data models are optimised for Power BI consumption, including considerations for performance, aggregation, and usability
- Supporting the design of semantic layers and ensure alignment between data models and reporting models
- Working closely with Business Analysts and Power BI Developers to ensure data structures meet analytical requirements
- Implementing and uphold data governance standards, including naming conventions, lineage, and documentation
- Identifying opportunities to improve data quality, consistency, and reusability across datamarts
- Supporting testing and validation activities, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
- Contributing to continuous improvement in data modelling standards, patterns, and tools
- Solid understanding of how data modelling impacts report performance and usability
- Working with SQL and data transformation processes
- Working with modern data platforms (data warehouses, data lakes)
- Data governance, metadata management, and data quality principles
- Working in Agile delivery teams, collaborating with cross-functional roles
- Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to communicate data concepts clearly

3-7+ years' experience in data modelling, data warehousing, or analytics engineering roles is expected.
