Role Description

The Data Operations Associate is a vital position on the STR Data Operations Team based in London, reporting to the Manager, Data Operations.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Data loading (corporate submissions, automated feeds, and manual data files)
  • Data checking and ensuring accuracy in benchmarking reports
  • Client-related administrative tasks, including managing data feeds and facilitating exchanges with STR clients
  • Report delivery, ensuring reports are accurate, compliant, and distributed on schedule
  • Close collaboration with global clients and internal teams to maintain data integrity and confidentiality

The team oversees a diverse and growing range of data types, including:

  • Historical data
  • Forward booking data
  • P&L (Profit & Loss) data

An understanding of key industry metrics and their business relevance is essential for effective data handling and reporting.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Loading and validating performance, financial, and booking data from various sources, including:
    • Corporate submissions
    • Automated data feeds
    • Manual data files
  • Performing data quality checks, researching, and either accepting or rejecting datasets.
  • Resolving data discrepancies with providers, clients, and colleagues while upholding STR/CoStar’s policies.
  • Liaising with the Research Department to address census-related issues (e.g., room availability, date gaps).
  • Running and coordinating daily, weekly, and monthly data processing procedures.

Client & Team Support

  • Responding to client enquiries via email in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assisting with pre-processing data checks for weekly/monthly reporting.
  • Generating, reviewing, and distributing reports to corporate clients and individual properties.
  • Acting as the primary internal contact for data-related queries.

Workflow & Automation

  • Managing client workflow requests, assisting with data delivery setups, and automating processes.
  • Helping clients connect their systems to STR, including:
    • Training on submission portals (e.g., via vendor integrations).
    • Researching new technology vendors for potential API/SFTP automation opportunities.
  • Adhering to STR/CoStar’s confidentiality standards in all actions.

Problem Solving

  • Identifying and escalating issues that may impact deliverable timelines.
  • Collaborating with IT and Global Data Operations to resolve bottlenecks efficiently.
  • Adjusting report setups based on client feedback and staying informed about industry trends that may affect data integrity.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, data science, business management, finance, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical mindset, with creative and innovative problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience handling large, disparate datasets with attention to detail.
  • Data literacy with the type of performance, revenue, and booking metrics commonly used in hospitality analytics.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data modelling, pivot tables, basic scripting).
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint (reporting displays) and Word (communication).
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal formats.
  • Experience managing urgent requests without compromising timelines.

Additional Desirable Knowledge

  • Experience with hospitality technologies, including:
    • Property Management Systems (PMS)
    • Revenue Management Systems (RMS)
    • BI (Business Intelligence) tools
  • Financial awareness, including understanding P&L statements and key KPIs (e.g., RevPAR, NOI, headcount).
  • Hands-on experience with API integrations and SFTP data transfers is a major advantage.
