ELT Group Technology Transformation: Data Platform Manager (DPM) – Stapleton’s Tyre Services
About the Role
ETEL Group is driving an exciting Technology Transformation Programme for Stapleton’s Tyre Services, migrating legacy IT systems to modern, cloud-based solutions. A key focal point is the newly developed Data Platform.
The Data Platform Manager (DPM) will own and optimize ETEL’s data platform, ensuring high performance, reliability, and business value. This position blends product management, hands-on data engineering, and cross-functional collaboration.
Core Responsibilities
Product Management & Ownership
- Manage & evolve the Microsoft Fabric/Azure Synapse data platform for all ETEL needs.
- Collaborate with business product owners and data scientists to align data solutions with strategic objectives.
- Own the end-to-end data product lifecycle (intake → design → build → release → support → retirement).
- Ensure adherence to robust architectural roadmaps while driving security, accessibility, and data quality.
- Lead datalake migration (Medallion structuring, schema evolution, backfill, cutover), including legacy data consolidation.
- Hands-on PySpark pipeline development, optimization, and debugging for engineering tasks.
- Advocate for data reuse and minimize redundant data copies within ETEL.
- Define and enforce data management principles, policies, and standards (governance, cataloguing, lineage).
- Maintain detailed documentation for data paths, architecture, and integrations.
- Liaise with ETEL’s Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance with UK data regulations.

- Lead a small data engineering team, fostering growth through one-to-one reviews, technical mentorship, and career development.
- Cultivate continuous improvement in delivery speed, quality, and team learning.
- Build strong cross-stakeholder relationships with operations, reporting, and analytics teams.

Person Specification
Key Skills & Experience
✔ Technical Hands-On Expertise
- Hands-on data engineering (PySpark pipeline development, optimisation, debugging).
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Fabric/Azure Synapse (incl. migration guidance).
- Experience with cloud platforms (Databricks, AWS Lake Formation).
- Strong relational database (SQL) and analytics expertise (SQL for transformational ETL).

✔ Data Architecture & Governance
- Proficiency in Medallion architecture, schema evolution, and datalake migration.
- Data governance: catalouge maintenance, lineage, access control, and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with enterprise BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
✔ DevOps Practices
- Version control (Git), automation (CI/CD), integration with Azure DevOps.
Professional Capacity
- Minimum 3+ years in data/technology roles (at least 2 years in data engineering).
- Proficient in Python, generic Python experience (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
- Analytical problem-solving for data platform environments.
- Experience with Data modelling tools (sparklers, AWS Glue).
- Negotiation and problem-solving mindset; trusted partner across silos.
Soft Skills
- Industry awareness: Ability to identify emerging trends and business-relevant applications.
- Highly effective communicator with people from diverse business functions.
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
- Preference given to those with certification or experience in data management.
ESSENTIAL NOTE: Frequent travel to ETEL office locations across UK may be required.
