Job Description

Key Responsibilities

You’ll work closely with the Data Protection Manager to deliver a hands-on, commercially aware approach to data protection. Your role spans operational, project-based, and compliance work, offering exposure across the organisation.

  • Framework & Governance
    • Support the ongoing development of the Group’s data protection compliance framework
    • Maintain key documentation (Record of Processing Activities, Data Protection Impact Assessments, Lawful Information Access Logs)
    • Review and advise on data protection clauses in contracts, supplier agreements, and Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)

  • Stakeholder Engagement

    • Act as a trusted internal advisor, translating complex UK GDPR/2018 Act/PECR requirements into practical guidance
    • Act as the primary data subject rights (DSARs) contact – managing erasures, objections, and data restriction requests
    • Provide privacy by design advice for new projects, systems, and business initiatives
  • Risk & Incident Management

    • Lead personal data breach investigations, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and prepare reporting for regulators
    • Monitor regulatory developments and propose policy updates for continuous improvement
  • Training & Awareness

    • Design and deliver data protection training across the Group
  • Operational Support

    • Assist the Data Protection team with day-to-day priorities

Ideal Candidate Profile The role is ideal for professionals in regulated environments (financial services, banking, insurance, or private sector stability frameworks) with a commercial mindset.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in data protection, compliance, risk, or governance, preferably in a regulated sector
  • Deep knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR)
  • Commercial aptitude – Ability to apply complex regulations in a business-focused, risk-aware manner
  • Strong organisational skills for managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail with unwavering professionalism
  • Excellent communicator who builds relationships across teams and hierarchy levels
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive, solutions-driven approach

Nice to Have

  • Background in financial services, fintech, insurance, or equivalent regulated industries
  • Qualifications such as CIPP, CIPM, or BCS in data protection, compliance, or IT governance
  • Retail/E-commerce/large scale consumer experience (preferably in a high-volume business)
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001, NIMS, or data governance frameworks
  • Engagement with emerging tech (AI, biometrics, advanced analytics)
