About the UK Data Protection Team
The UK Data Protection team ensures EY’s compliance with:
- UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- Data Protection Act 2018
- Data (Use and Access) Act 2025
- Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, maintaining and implementing data protection policies, standards, and procedures
- Advising on complex privacy matters
- Collaborating with global and local teams to ensure alignment with regional requirements
Governing alongside legal, compliance and internal audit teams, this team sits within Central UK Risk Management.
The Opportunity
Join EY’s UK Data Protection Team as a Data Protection Assistant Director. Combine technical expertise and commercially informed judgement to guide decision-making, manage risks, and maintain a culture of robust privacy practice.
Key Responsibilities

Advisory & Escalation Advise and escalate high-risk data protection matters with an actionable, risk-focused approach.

Frontline Compliance Oversight Lead and direct critical data protection functions:
- Managing Data Subject Rights requests
- Investigating Data Breaches
- Conducting Privacy and Confidentiality Impact Assessments (PIAs)
- Overseeing Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs)
- Performing compliance audits and reviews

Risk Assessment & Challenge Review governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with risk protocols and appropriate mitigation strategies.

Framework, Policy & Training Implementation Develop policies and training to instil a data protection culture across the firm, ensuring consistent compliance.

Delivery Excellence & Continuous Improvement Lead complex workstreams and enhance data protection processes.

Stakeholder Management & Influence Collaborate with stakeholders—from leadership to colleagues—offering clear guidance on data protection priorities.

Training & Awareness Deliver wide-ranging training and promote privacy awareness company-wide.

Leadership & Strategic Contribution Lead cross-functional teams, contribute to EY’s privacy framework evolution, and support major projects.
Required Qualifications
- Anonymous qualifications: At least four years of experience within a data protection, privacy, risk, compliance, legal or related profession.
- UK data protection and privacy expertise, with a focus on risk-based compliance.
- Experience handling complex data protection incidents and engaging with stakeholders at senior levels.
- A recognised privacy qualification such as:
- Chartered Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E)
- Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM)
- ISEB Certificate in Data Protection
- Professional Certificate in Data Protection (PC.dp) or equivalent
Desirable Qualities
- Preference for candidates with applied experience in commercial or professional services data protection context.
- Additional benefit for experience within regulated sectors (e.g., Financial Services, Professional Services).
