Data Protection Solicitor (Consultant) – 8 years plus PQE

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Solicitor with a minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) to join Harper James on a consultancy basis. This is an exciting opportunity to support Harper James clients and work with a growing and diverse client base, ranging from innovative start-ups to established national and international businesses.

You will advise on a wide range of data protection and privacy matters within a modern, tech-enabled law firm. As a consultant within our flexible model, you will manage your own caseload while benefiting from the support, infrastructure, and collaborative culture of a forward-thinking national firm.

You will:

  • Work closely with founders, senior leadership teams, in-house counsel, and operational stakeholders, providing clear, pragmatic guidance that supports business growth while helping organisations meet their regulatory obligations.

Your work may include advising on:

  • UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) compliance and data protection governance
  • Data protection audits, policies, and internal compliance frameworks
  • Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and data sharing arrangements
  • Privacy notices, cookie policies, and direct marketing compliance
  • International data transfers and transfer risk assessments
  • Managing data subject rights requests and breach responses
  • Data protection aspects of commercial contracts and technology arrangements
  • Data protection due diligence in corporate transactions
  • Advising on artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, and privacy risks
  • Providing strategic support to businesses acting as controllers and processors

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
