Data Protection Solicitor

Data Protection Solicitor – 2+ Years' PQE (Fixed-Term Contract)

Location: Oxfordshire Salary: Up to GBP 95,000 (DOE) Contract: 12-Month Fixed-Term Job Ref: 4465

About the Role

You will be part of a highly regarded specialist team, advising clients on data protection and information governance matters across contentious and commercial areas. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Handling complex Subject Access Requests (DSARs), Freedom of Information Requests (FOIAs), and responding to personal data breaches under UK law.
  • Providing commercially focused legal advice on complex information governance and privacy issues.
  • Collaborating with recognised industry specialists on high-profile cases, including those involving cybersecurity incidents and tribunal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Navigate UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act, ensuring compliance with the latest regulatory obligations.
  • Manage groupl discussions arising from data breaches, DSARs, and FOIA requests.
  • Represent and advise clients on contentious matters, counselling on data protection deficiencies and regulatory risks.
  • Support clients in regulatory investigations, including Icelandic supervisory authority engagements and whistleblower disclosures.
  • Assess the impact of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, biometrics) on data protection regimes.
  • Drive training programs for internal and external stakeholders to strengthen data protection policies.
  • Contribute to developing firm-wide best practices for information governance and privacy compliance.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 2 years’ Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) as a solicitor.
  • Strong practical expertise in data protection law and information governance, ideally with experience in in-house roles or pro bono advocacy.
  • In-depth understanding of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and related case law.
  • Proven ability to provide commercially aware, high-quality legal advice.
  • Experience with cyberattacks, tribunal proceedings, and contentious data protection disputes is highly desirable.
