Data Quality Analyst
Senior Data Quality & Governance Analyst
**Join our Data Quality and Governance team—play a key role in keeping critical data trusted, monitored, and ready for decision-making.
You’ll manage DQPro rules and Ataccama data quality monitoring, run smart validations and reconciliations to spot issues early, and ensure operational stability in production. The Opportunity
Markel is seeking a self-motivated, capable individual to elevate our data quality processes. The ideal candidate will:
- Work independently but collaboratively, aligning with shared goals and collaborating across functions.
- Foster a customer-focused, proactive mindset and support the transition to new ways of working.
- Contribute to business-as-usual (BAU) reference data and data quality operations.
- Help when expanding its strategic data programmes.
Your Key Responsibilities
Data Quality and Governance
- Own day-to-day DQ monitoring across both DQPro and Ataccama, ensuring controls remain current, effective, and well-documented.
- Run validations, reconciliations, and profiling to identify anomalies within data, false positives, and underlying issues.
- Create data analysis and feedback to evidence progress, highlight trends, and ensure governance teams have clear visibility of data quality outcomes.
- Support release and environment checks (pre-prod to prod) to streamline control transitions into stable BAU.

Data Lineage and Reporting
- Maintain DQ registers, rule inventories, and evidence packs, delivering clear summaries for governance forums.
- Build familiarity with reference data management (RDM) processes while supporting ad-hoc queries and operational needs.
- Track recurring issues, partner with stakeholders to drive remediation, and strengthen monitoring over time.
Key Skills & Requirements
To succeed in this role, we’re looking for a team player with the following strengths:
- Technical expertise in SQL fundamentals (reading, testing, and making minor query adjustments).
- Strong background in data validation, reconciliation, and detailed analytics.
- Experience working with data quality controls (thresholds, exceptions, and outcomes).
- Ability to document clearly in written form, with structured communication and concise reporting.
- Self-directed with operational skills—execution-focused and comfortable following structured methods.
- Keen open to feedback and adaptive to changes.
Technical Knowledge & Experience
- Proficiency or exposure to DQPro, Ataccama, or similar data quality tools.
- Baseline knowledge of insurance operations and common data governance concepts: ownership, SLAs, severity, escalation.
- Familiarity with Power BI or Tableau for data analysis, visualisation, and dashboards.
- Basic knowledge of Databricks or cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP).
