Overview
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest fire and rescue service in England, serving an area of 902 square kilometres and a population of some three million people. Our Strategy drives the people, professionalism, and pride with which we serve our communities.
Our work to reduce risks within our communities is guided by our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP), which sets out our long-term priorities for making the West Midlands safer, stronger, and healthier. High-quality data is essential to understanding community risk, targeting resources effectively, and supporting informed decision-making across the service.
As a Data Quality Officer, you will help ensure the information used to support these activities is accurate, consistent, and reliable, enabling WMFS to deliver its aims and ambitions and make a tangible difference to the communities protected by our 38 fire stations.

About the role
As Data Quality Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving the quality of data used within the Risk Management team. You will help ensure information is accurate, consistent, complete, and fit for purpose, supporting both operational activities and strategic planning.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
