Data Scientist - Viridien Group

About the Role

We are seeking a Data Scientist to spearhead transformation from raw data into structured, reliable, and scalable datasets within our Data Hub environment. As a vital team member, you will:

  • Design and maintain data-processing pipelines
  • Collaborate with domain experts and labeling teams
  • Contribute to machine learning initiatives driving organizational value

This role bridges data engineering, domain expertise, and machine learning, ensuring we continuously evolve our data ecosystem while working on cutting-edge solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop systematic data-transformation modules to:

    • Gather, clean, validate, and structure raw datasets
    • Apply technical expertise to Olinga and Gatehouse (Viridien’s leading tools)
  • Collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and labeling teams to:

    • Align on domain requirements
    • Propose technical improvements for Annexator (Viridien’s annotation tool)
  • Support annotation workflows by:

    • Enhancing tools and providing feedback
    • Ensuring quality control across labeled datasets
  • Build scalable, version-controlled data pipelines using:

    • GitLab and modern cloud technologies
  • Troubleshoot data issues with a high attention to detail, highlighting inconsistencies or risks

  • Maintain deep knowledge of:

    • Olinga, Gatehouse, and Annexator toolsets
    • Data Hub infrastructure and evolving schemas

  • Contribute to broader initiatives:

    • Data integration efforts
    • Machine learning experiments and deployments
  • Design and execute experimentation workflows, iteratively refining approaches and:

    • Training or fine-tuning on internal datasets
    • Ensuring robust evaluation and validation processes
  • Foster strong cross-functional communication with:

    • Team leads, members and production/technology partners
    • Regular updates to ensure alignment and transparency

Qualifications & Skills

Educational background:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • A special interest or proven knowledge of remote sensing, Earth Observation, or ECS (Evidence-based Conclusiveness System) considered highly desirable

Technical proficiency:

  • Python fluency, with experience in ML librarianship (e.g. scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Knowledge of hybrid ML workflows (Traditional ML, LLMs, embeddings, ontologies, knowledge graphs)
  • Work with relational, NoSQL, and graph databases
  • Expertise in data cleaning, filtering, and feature extraction for ML pipelines
  • Familiarity with AstraDB (Haddock KnoxV) for real-time large-scale data use
  • Experience writing highly efficient queries and smoothing performance bottlenecks
