Data Scientist - 10 Month Contract (Inside IR35)

Hybrid Working: Based in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, or Nottingham.

About the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability, and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers.

Working with DWP

You will be helping us to drive our priorities to:

  • Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
  • Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
  • Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
  • Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Data Scientist to join a high-profile Universal Credit (UC) feature team, supporting a key ministerial priority focused on improving our understanding of claimants' work search activity and employment circumstances.

This is a specialist role where you will apply advanced data science techniques to unlock the value of complex UC data, helping to enhance the quality, accuracy, and usability of information held on claimants' work history, skills, and job aspirations. Working as part of a permanent cross-functional feature team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping data-driven solutions that improve services for claimants, employers, and work coaches.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
