About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our client’s innovative engineering team on a Cardiff-based or hybrid working basis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing scalable machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions that enhance compliance, risk management, and contractor analytics platforms. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of AI and predictive analytics, contributing to projects that have a tangible impact on operational performance and strategic decision-making. The role involves close collaboration with AI Engineers, Data Engineers, and DevOps teams to design, build, and deploy advanced models in cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a passion for innovation, and the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and practical experience, including:
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist in a commercial environment, with a focus on machine learning and AI solutions.
- Hands-on experience in building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production settings.
- Strong understanding of predictive modelling techniques, NLP, and large language model (LLM) architectures.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and familiarity with modern ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly AWS and Azure.
- Knowledge of data ingestion, transformation, and feature engineering, preferably using tools like Microsoft Fabric.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively within agile teams, demonstrating collaboration and problem-solving skills.
While not essential, experience in risk modelling, compliance analytics, MLOps, CI/CD pipelines, or data governance will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop machine learning models for risk scoring, churn prediction, and contractor analytics to support strategic objectives.
- Build and deploy NLP and LLM-based solutions for automated compliance checks and insight generation.
- Implement and maintain models within cloud-based environments, ensuring scalability and reliability.
- Utilize Microsoft Fabric for data ingestion, transformation, and feature engineering tasks.
- Monitor model performance, establish retraining protocols, and optimize models for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams within agile delivery frameworks to ensure timely project delivery.
- Communicate complex technical solutions effectively to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating understanding and buy-in.
- Contribute to the development and adherence to best practices around coding, maintainability, and AI development lifecycle management.
