Data Scientist / Deep Learning Practitioner – Senior Associate/Associate Level
Location: London or Nottingham Pattern: 3 days in-office (Tuesday–Thursday), 2 days remote

About the Role
Our Data Science team specialises in developing Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) solutions to transform complex business challenges into actionable insights. As part of this collaborative and high-impact team, you’ll:
- Partner closely with product, technology, and business teams to deliver scalable AI solutions.
- Lead projects focused on advanced underwriting models—the backbone of our lending business.
- Explore multi-modal data applications (e.g., combining text, images, and time-series data) to push the boundaries of AI innovation.
This Data Scientist / Deep Learning Practitioner role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of code, data, and business strategy, with a focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) and transformative underwriting systems.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Business Impact
- Design and deploy deep learning models (e.g., LSTMs, transformers) to improve predictive underwriting, reducing risk while expanding accessibility.
- Work with multi-modal data (e.g., credit applications with mixed text/image formats) to unlock deeper business insights.
- Flag areas for innovation and champion data-driven decisions that align with capital efficiency and customer-centric risk policies.
LLM & Product Collaboration
- Act as a technical advisor for teams building Large Language Model-driven products, ensuring seamless integration with customer-facing solutions.
- Collaborate on LLM pre-training and fine-tuning to enhance automated servicing tools, improving customer and associate experiences.
Data Science Excellence
- Leverage Python, statistical modelling, and large-scale data tooling (e.g., Spark) to refine predictive accuracy across diverse datasets.
- Experiment fearlessly: robustly test hypotheses with empirical data and iterate on frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face.
- Document methodology and findings clearly to empower data-informed business decisions.

What You’ll Bring
Technical Expertise
✅ Deep Learning Specialisation:
- Hands-on experience in sequential modeling (e.g., RNNs, LSTMs, Transformers) and multi-modal learning.
- Proficiency in deploying LLMs or similar architectures in production.
- Familiarity with fine-tuning vs. fine-tuning-light (QLoRA/RLoRA) approaches for efficiency.
✅ Frameworks & Tools:
- PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face expertise.
- Experience with data pipelines (e.g., Kafka, Spark) and MLOps for scalable AI workloads.
- Comfortable in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure GCP) and GPUs like TPUs.
✅ Business Acumen:
- Stable statistical literacy—think Bayesian statistical methods, A/B testing, and experimental design.
- Ability to translate black-box models into intuitive narratives for senior stakeholders.
✅ Coding & Collaboration:
- Python mastery (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn) with crisp, maintainable, and well-commented code.
- Agnostic attitude toward new libraries/tech stacks—expect to absorb emerging tools quickly.
