The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Data Scientist to join our Transport Modelling team in London. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge agent-based and activity-based modelling projects, collaborating with senior transport modellers, project managers and multidisciplinary teams across Arup.
In this role, you will:
- Help develop innovative modelling approaches to understand travel behaviour, test future scenarios, and support major transport and city-shaping decisions
- Directly inform scheme appraisal, mitigation testing, and long-term planning for complex urban environments
- Apply advanced data science techniques, build and calibrate models, and communicate insights clearly through traditional and non-traditional outputs
- Have strong opportunities for technical growth, thought leadership, and professional development, along with exposure to high-profile projects in the UK and internationally

- Demonstrable experience in data science, simulation, urban modelling and/or transport modelling
- Direct experience with activity-based and agent-based modelling, including synthetic population development
- Strong Python skills, with experience using version control tools such as GitHub
- A master’s degree in a relevant discipline (for example, Data Science, Transport Planning or Statistics)
- The ability to communicate complex data and modelling outputs clearly, through visualisation, reports, and presentations
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with confidence working independently and collaboratively in client-facing environments
