Data Scientist

About the Role
Are you excited to work with a global team with diverse backgrounds and talents? Do you enjoy applying your technical skills to quantify business risks and drive innovation through analytics?
We’re looking for a Data Scientist to:
- Engage in audits to analyze data using traditional machine learning or Large Language Models (LLMs) to uncover trends, patterns, or anomalies for auditors to investigate further.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to assist in risk assessments and highlight high-risk areas for deeper analysis.
- Clearly communicate complex insights from analytics to senior stakeholders in an engaging and impactful way.
- Stay updated with advancements in AI, machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP), implementing cutting-edge solutions—including working with the latest Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Provide auditors with training and support to effectively use data-driven tools and solutions.
Your Team
You’ll join the Group Internal Audit (GIA) team in London. GIA supports UBS in fulfilling strategic, operational, financial, and compliance objectives by assessing processes, governance, risk management, and control environments across global Business Divisions and Group Functions.
- We are independent in our work and report to the Chairman of the Board and Audit Committee.
- Our innovation team drives automation and data analytics adoption, empowering teams to leverage data-driven solutions.
- Your role involves maintaining strong relationships with audit teams, offering support through ad-hoc and automated audit/risk analytics.

Your Expertise
We’re looking for a self-motivated professional with:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
- Economics
- Statistics
- Data Science
- Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

Proven experience as a Data Scientist building innovative solutions, preferably in financial services.

Strong statistical foundation (e.g., hypothesis testing).

Proficiency in data wrangling with libraries like Pandas, NumPy, etc.

Expertise in Machine Learning algorithms:
- Regression
- Classification
- Decision trees
- Support Vector Machines (SVMs), etc.

Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and working with Large Language Models (e.g., for text generation, classification, or topic discovery).

Skills in fine-tuning pre-trained models for better performance on specific tasks.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, including translating technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Proactive, mission-driven team player with:
- Strong ownership and accountability.
- Excellent organization and time management.
- Experience delivering projects using Agile methodologies.
