About Arup

The Cyber Resilience team, part of the Digital Technology Group, spans:

  • Data Security
  • Identity & Access Management (IAM)
  • Security Engineering
  • IAM Administration
  • Privileged Access Management

We collaborate closely with Security Operations and Governance, Risk & Compliance to protect Arup’s platforms, information, and data.

The Role of a Lifetime

As the Data Security Service Lead, your mandate is clear: stand up Arup’s new Data Security service, define its vision, operating model, roadmap, mission, and success measures—then own its delivery across the entire organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead the Data Security Service team.
  • Establish governance and align with Cyber resilience goals.
  • Drive data protection as a core part of how Arup delivers work.
  • Assume single-point ownership of data security outcomes.
  • Formulate & implement Arup’s Data Security Plan as an operational capability.

Tangible Accountabilities: ☑ Lead the vision, roadmap, operating model, and success metrics for the Data Security Service. ☑ Translate the Data Security Plan into a clear, multi-year delivery roadmap covering: - Governance - Data classification - Data Loss Prevention (DLP) - Encryption - Monitoring - Resilience

☑ Operate at both strategic and operational levels, bridging gaps between leadership and technical teams. ☑ Influence senior stakeholders, advise on high-risk data challenges, and track progress toward continuous improvement. ☑ Shape priorities, advise on data protection risks, and embed data security as a priority.

Is This Role Right for You?

Required expertise and qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of data security—including classification, DLP, encryption, and data lifecycle protection.
  • Expertise in standards & frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC 27001, NIST CSF, CIS Controls).
  • Extraordinary delivery record: Ownership or leadership of global/enterprise-scale security services.
  • Masters both strategy (vision-heavy) and execution (tactical delivery).
  • Stakeholder management skills—influencing executives while aligning security teams across IT and business domains.
