**Data Security Service Lead – Cyber Resilience Team – *Global Remote or Bulgaria ***

The Cyber Resilience team, part of the Digital Technology Group, encompasses Data Security, Identity & Access Management, Security Engineering, IAM Administration, and Privileged Access Management. Working closely with Security Operations and Governance, Risk, and Compliance, the team safeguards Arup’s platforms, information, and data—ensuring robust resilience against evolving cyber threats.

This opportunity is for the Data Security Service Lead, a key leadership role in shaping Arup’s future data resilience. In this position, you will:

  • Stand up the new Data Security service, defining its vision, operating model, roadmap, and success metrics
  • Build, lead the data security team, and establish clear governance frameworks
  • Partner with collaborative, cross-functional Cyber teams to embed data protection into core operations and project delivery

You’ll take single-point ownership of data security, blending strategic vision with operational execution. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and owning the Data Security Service, covering:
    • Vision & long-term strategy
    • Operating model & ** measuring success**
  • Translating data security initiatives into a prioritised, multi-year roadmap, ensuring alignment with:
    • Governance & compliance
    • Data classification & protection
    • Data loss prevention (DLP)
    • Encryption & monitoring
    • Resilience planning
  • Collaborating with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and business leaders to implement strategies, assess risks, and drive continuous improvement
  • Shaping a sustainable and impactful data security culture across Arup

Is This Role Right For You?

✅ Deep expertise in data security, covering:

  • Data classification strategies
  • DLP (Data Loss Prevention)
  • Encryption technologies
  • End-to-end data lifecycle protection

✅ A strong foundation in compliance standards and frameworks, such as:

  • ISO/IEC 27001
  • NIST CSF
  • CIS Controls

✅ Proven experience in owning or leading a global or enterprise-scale security service, with a track record of delivering sustained operational excellence in a matrix organisational environment

✅ The ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels, transforming vision into action and driving adoption across complex environments

✅ Outstanding stakeholder management skills, with experience:

  • Influencing senior executives and cross-functional teams
  • Translating complex security risks into actionable priorities and decisions
