Database Administrator
Database Administrator (SC Clearance Required) – 6 Month Contract
Location: Telford (2 days/week in office) Duration: 6 months (Inside IR35) Rate: £447 GBP/day Clearance: Active SC Clearance required
About the Role
We are a Global Recruitment Specialist serving clients across EMEA, APAC, US, and Canada. We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to support and maintain critical databases, ensuring integrity, security, and high performance. This role involves hands-on technical work with database systems, while collaborating with IT and business teams to solve real-world challenges.
Responsibilities
Database Maintenance & Monitoring
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues quickly and effectively.
- Conduct regular backups and ensure robust data recovery solutions.
Database Security
- Implement and enforce security protocols to protect sensitive data.
- Manage access permissions and privileges for database users.
- Conduct security audits, identifying vulnerabilities and implementing fixes.

Data Management
- Design, develop, and deploy databases aligned with business needs.
- Optimise database structures and queries for performance.
- Define and enforce data standards and best practices.
Capacity Planning & Scaling
- Forecast future database capacity needs and propose growth strategies.
- Recommend and facilitate hardware/software upgrades to support expanding systems.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain clear documentation of database configurations, procedures, and workflows.
- Produce performance, security, and usage reports for stakeholders.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with development teams to integrate database solutions into applications.
- Provide technical guidance to end-users and IT colleagues.
- Stay current with emerging database technologies and industry standards.

Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator (or similar role).
- Proficient in multiple DBMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Strong knowledge of database security, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
- Experience with SQL query optimisation and indexing strategies.
Soft Skills & Work Ethic
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
- Comfortable in a hybrid/high-pressure IT environment.
Bonus Credentials
- Certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
