Database Administrator
Database Administrator (DBA) - (Oracle / Microsoft SQL Server / PostgreSQL)
Location: Sheffield – Hybrid (3 days per week in office)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in managing high-volume relational databases across enterprise environments, with a focus on one or more of the following:
- Oracle
- Microsoft SQL Server
- PostgreSQL
This position is ideal for professionals who thrive in the payments, banking, or financial services sectors and are responsible for ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of mission-critical database systems.
Key Responsibilities
Support, maintain, and optimise complex relational database environments to meet business requirements. Develop and execute high-performance SQL queries and schema designs to improve system efficiency. Implement and manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including:
- Oracle RAC
- SQL Server Always On
- Data replication
- Database clustering

Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues using advanced tools such as:
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- Dynatrace
- Splunk
- Prometheus
Design and execute database backup, recovery, and business continuity strategies. Leverage knowledge of Linux/Unix environments to administer database servers. Collaborate with development, IT operations, and business teams to align database solutions with broader system optimisation goals.
Essential Requirements
At least 5+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise Database Administration (DBA). Proven expertise in at least one major RDBMS, preferably Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL. Experience supporting high-volume transactional systems, particularly within payments, banking, or financial services. Strong knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) technologies:

Advanced skills in SQL development, query optimisation, and database performance tuning. Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability tools, including:
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- Dynatrace
- Splunk
- Prometheus
Proficiency in managing Linux/Unix-based database environments. Deep understanding of database backup, recovery, and business continuity strategies.
Bonus Skills: Cloud-based database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or GCP Cloud SQL). Experience with containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) for database deployments. Advanced scripting (Python, Bash) for administrative tasks.
