About the Role
Indra seeks a Database Administrator to join the IT Operations team, focusing on the administration, support, and optimisation of business-critical database platforms across transport and ticketing services.
This role ensures: ✔ Availability, performance, security, and resilience of database environments ✔ Support for business continuity and system optimisation ✔ Reliable delivery of customer-facing services
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with application development, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to uphold operational excellence.

- Administer, maintain, and support business-critical SQL Server environments and associated test/development systems
- Ensure high availability and performance of mission-critical database platforms

Optimisation & Automation
- Monitor database performance to implement tuning, optimisation, and automation
- Streamline data flows and integrations between business systems

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes
- Participate in planning, testing, and execution of business continuity exercises

Troubleshooting & Incident Management
- Proactively monitor production and test environments to address potential issues
- Investigate and resolve complex technical incidents with subject-matter expertise

Security & Compliance
- Implement database security, user administration, and access controls
- Disseminate findings to audits and compliance stakeholders

Collaboration & On-Call
- Contribute to on-call rotas for out-of-hours incident handling
- Support broader IT and business initiatives as needed
Requirements
Essential
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent professional experience
- Microsoft SQL Server certification (e.g., MCTS or equivalent)
- Formal training in Database Administration
Experience
- Supporting business-critical IT systems in 24/7 operational environments
- Administering Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Working with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- Developing/supporting Transact-SQL scripts, stored procedures, and database processes
- Implementing backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
- Troubleshooting operational environments and complex technical issues
- Capacity planning, performance monitoring, and system optimisation
- Maintaining technical documentation and adhering to operational procedures

Desirable
- Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS)
- ITIL Foundation certification
- Supporting reporting BI platforms (e.g., IBM Cognos BI)
- On-call support within operational environments
- Knowledge of transport/ticketing or high-availability services
