Database Administrator
Location: Bristol, Edinburgh or London, hybrid

A role you will love
This is a fantastic opportunity to work within the database engineering pod as a Database Administrator. The team you’ll be a part of is responsible for providing technical support of the database technologies and systems across the globe, with primary focus on our European and South African operations (EMEA region). You will be keeping our data safe, secure and performing at optimal levels using different technologies including MS SQL Server and MongoDB.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Owning and resolving database related incidents and requests.
- Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within agreed SLAs.
- Reviewing service-related reports and notifications.
- e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring.
- Responding to database related alerts / escalations.
- Engineering solutions to recurring problems.
- Ensure Database Systems are highly available and comply with global and regional standards.
- Provide project support, liaising with key stakeholders to ensure a high level of service.
- Build / migrate database environments according to standard templates and best practice.
- Identify and work with CTS and business teams to implement process improvement.
- Any other reasonable activity including supporting and assisting with system upgrades.

What will you bring to the role
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic and an experienced technical individual, who has a positive outlook and strong desire for problem solving.
Ideally, you will have experience working as an MS SQL Database Administrator (or in an equivalent role), together with an understanding of the security requirements associated with operating within a financial services environment.
As this is a large, multi-site organisation, a small amount of travel will be required, primarily to support team-building activities and ongoing project commitments.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Database Administration for MSSQL Server SQL2022, 2016, Azure.
- Experience of SQL Server Always On
- SQL 2022 deployment and administration
- Strong ability to work autonomously, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
- Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Database platforms.
- Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
- Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
Desirable Skills, Experience and Competencies
- MongoDB Administration
- Database Replication
- Experience with third party database performance monitoring tools
