The role:
We are seeking an experienced SQL Infrastructure Engineer to deliver SQL database administration and infrastructure project activities within a large, enterprise environment. You will be responsible for building, administering and maintaining SQL Server environments, ensuring database platforms remain secure, highly available and aligned with business and operational requirements.
Working closely with Infrastructure, Security and Application teams, you will support SQL database builds, migrations, upgrades and decommissioning activities, whilst maintaining quality standards and following established operational processes.
Responsibilities:
- Build SQL Databases using standardised SQL Server build processes.
- Coordinate with Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure successful SQL database deployments.
- Perform Quality Assurance checks on newly built SQL databases.
- Perform SQL Database backups and restores to support infrastructure and application projects.
- Troubleshoot and remediate issues identified following database builds or migration activities.
- Decommission legacy SQL databases where required.
- Provide SQL database administration support across infrastructure and transformation projects.
- Support application migrations to new infrastructure and data centres.
- Work within established Change Management and Incident Management processes.
- Maintain high levels of service availability across critical SQL Server environments.

Skills & Experience:
- Strong SQL Server Database Administration experience.
- Extensive experience administering SQL Server 2016 through to SQL Server 2025.
- Substantial experience configuring and supporting Always On Availability Groups.
- Experience with Windows Clustering and other High Availability / Disaster Recovery (HADR) technologies.
- Experience administering and deploying SSRS, SSIS and SSAS environments.
- Experience working with Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012.
- Experience supporting virtualised SQL Server environments using VMware.
- Experience using PowerShell and Power BI.
- Experience performing SQL Server upgrades.
- Understanding of Change Management and Incident Management processes.
- Experience using BMC Remedy / Helix.
Desirable skills:
- Active Directory.
- Commvault.
- SCOM.
- SQL Server 2025.
- Jira / Confluence.
- Experience migrating SQL environments between Data Centres.
- Experience supporting Cloud migration projects.
