Database Architect
Database Architect Department: Technology Employment Type: Full Time Location: Malta Reporting To: Mark Said
Description As a Database Architect, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative database solutions that support our organization's strategic goals. You will play a key role in defining and driving the database strategy, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and security of our data assets.
Key Responsibilities Database Strategy: Develop and articulate a long-term database strategy that aligns with the organization's business objectives and technology roadmap. Evaluate and recommend database technologies, platforms, and architectures to meet evolving business needs. Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into effective database solutions. Database Design and Architecture: Design and implement complex database architectures, including mission-critical OLTP systems and any other models the data platform requires. Develop data models, schemas, and normalization rules to ensure data integrity, consistency, and efficiency. Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and performance monitoring. Design software automation routines for the Database Engineers to follow and build upon. Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and standards to protect data quality and integrity. Develop data classification and retention strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Implement data security measures to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. Project Management: Together with the Database Engineering Team Manager you will lead and manage database-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of database solutions.

Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in DBA work, database architecture and design. Proven track record of leading complex database projects and initiatives. Deep understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, normalization, and performance optimization. Experience with cloud-based database platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with data platforms for both Microsoft (SQL Server) and Open Source technologies (Postgres and MySQL). Desired Skills: Experience with the latest Infrastructural technologies for optimal performance. Experience with data virtualization and integration technologies. Experience with automation scripting and best practices (Ansible, Terraform and Powershell). Certification in relevant database technologies.
