About The Role
IMT Resourcing Solutions is currently seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join a dynamic IT team within a leading organization based in Wigan. This role offers a hybrid working model, requiring two days per week on-site, and provides an excellent opportunity to work with modern Microsoft technologies, including Azure SQL. As a Database Engineer, you will be instrumental in maintaining, supporting, and enhancing critical database platforms and infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure the stability, security, and high availability of essential business systems, contributing significantly to the organization’s operational resilience and performance.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments, with a solid understanding of Azure SQL and Windows Server infrastructure. You should have a proven track record in managing database backups, restores, disaster recovery processes, and performance tuning. Knowledge of security best practices, system hardening, and vulnerability management is essential. Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, along with troubleshooting and analytical skills, will be highly advantageous. Candidates with experience in PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or cyber security frameworks are encouraged to apply, although these are not mandatory.

Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Manage database backups, restores, disaster recovery testing, and maintenance plans to safeguard data integrity and availability.
- Monitor database performance, availability, and storage, proactively identifying opportunities for enhancement and optimisation.
- Support Windows Server administration tasks, including patching, updates, and routine maintenance to ensure system stability.
- Maintain the stability and performance of both production and non-production environments, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Respond promptly to infrastructure monitoring alerts, investigate incidents, and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Contribute to cybersecurity efforts by implementing secure configurations, maintaining patch compliance, and managing access controls.
- Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and operational procedures to support ongoing management and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure, software engineering, and IT teams to deliver continuous platform improvements and innovations.
- Participate in an out-of-hours support rota to handle critical incidents and ensure business continuity when necessary.
