Job Title

A globally recognised technology organisation is recruiting an experienced Data Infrastructure & AI Engineer to join a world-class research and engineering team focused on the next generation of intelligent data platforms and AI systems.

About the Role

This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of large-scale data infrastructure, database systems, distributed computing, and AI. You will help design and build high-performance systems that support advanced AI workloads while contributing to innovative research and product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimise high-performance data infrastructure and AI system components.
  • Research and implement scalable solutions across database engines, distributed systems, and AI infrastructure.
  • Improve system performance through benchmarking, profiling, workload analysis, and optimisation.
  • Develop robust software using modern systems programming languages and machine learning frameworks.
  • Contribute to the architecture of next-generation data platforms supporting AI applications.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary research and engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and translate research into practical engineering solutions.

Experience

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, operating systems, database technologies, AI systems, or systems engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of database architecture, including areas such as query optimisation, indexing, storage engines, transaction management, concurrency, recovery, and distributed data processing.
  • Experience with modern AI techniques, including LLM optimisation, efficient model deployment, fine-tuning strategies, knowledge distillation, and AI memory architectures.
  • Proven experience designing, building, testing, and optimising complex software systems.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more systems languages such as C, C++, Rust, or Go.
  • Experience using AI and machine learning frameworks, including Python and TensorFlow.
  • Ability to design experiments, analyse performance, benchmark systems, and interpret technical results.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate within research-led engineering teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Database engines, storage platforms, distributed computing frameworks, operating systems, compiler technologies, or low-level infrastructure.
  • Modern data platform architectures including cloud-native databases, distributed databases, HTAP platforms, vector databases, graph databases, or lakehouse technologies.
  • Working with database internals or contributing to open-source database and data processing projects.
  • Performance optimisation across modern hardware platforms including multi-core architectures, GPUs, NPUs, RDMA, NUMA, CXL, or high-performance storage.
  • AI-focused data infrastructure such as vector search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, semantic data management, knowledge graphs, or agent memory systems.
  • Research publications within database systems, distributed systems, AI infrastructure, or related technical fields.
