Database Manager (Marketing)

About the Role

The [Database Manager] owns Corston’s customer and prospect data as a marketing asset, transforming it into revenue. You will manage the CRM, segmentation, email marketing, and lifecycle campaigns while ensuring the health, growth, and compliance of the database for both B2C and trade audiences. Your responsibilities span building prospect lists, maintaining customer data, and delivering the right message at the right time to boost revenue and customer lifetime value (LTV). This role reports to the Marketing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the CRM database: Oversee Corston’s central tool for B2C and trade/specification audiences, aligning messaging strategies with audience behaviour.
  • Segmentation strategy: Develop and refine lifecycle, value, channel, and product-affinity segments, ensuring campaigns are tailored to consumer and trade audiences.
  • Execute email and lifecycle programmes: Own onboarding, nurture, cart abandonment, post-purchase, replenishment, win-back, and trade-specific journeys, optimising for revenue and retention.
  • Marketing automation: Design flows for lead nurturing (specification requests, showroom/sampling) to advance prospects through the funnel.
  • Data hygiene and growth:
    • Oversee deduplication, data enrichment, suppression lists, and deliverability.
    • Lead a team to capture data via websites, showrooms, and events.
    • Implement strategies to boost remarketing and database quality.
  • Retention and CRM strategy: Drive repeat purchases, LTV, and customer reactivation.
  • Compliance: Ensure full adherence to UK GDPR/PECR, consent capture, and data retention practices. Act as a custodian of customer trust.
  • CRM analytics: Partner with the CRM Owner to track KPIs (open/click rates, conversion, LTV, churn, list growth) and test segmentation, subject lines, content timing, and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with Website Manager, content/brand teams, and Marketing Analyst to align data, creative, and measurement strategies.
  • CRM optimisation: Ensure HubSpot functions as required by the company.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential:

  • Proven experience in e-commerce database and email marketing strategy.
  • Strong CRM/database marketing expertise (hands-on experience with platforms like HubSpot, Klaviyo, Salesforce/Marketing Cloud, Dotdigital).
  • Demonstrable track record in building segmentation and automation programmes that increase revenue and retention.
  • Comfortable analysing data, crafting segments, interpreting performance, and managing bet-testing.
  • Knowledge of global data policies (GDPR/PECR), email delivethability, consent, preference management, and suppression.
  • Skilled in copywriting and campaign brief development with a premium brand tone.
  • Analytical, commercially driven, and highly organised.

  • Experience marketing to B2B/trade audiences alongside B2C.
  • Background in premium retail, interiors, or high-consideration product industries.
