Join Data Services, where our mission is to deliver high-quality, reliable, and secure data services that are accessible, understandable, and actionable. As a DataOps Engineer, you’ll help build our DataOps specialism within a growing team of Data Engineers and DevOps professionals, operationalising and automating our Azure Data Platform to ensure data workflows are robust, efficient, and future-ready. A Day in the Role A typical day might start with a team stand-up, where you’ll discuss ongoing projects and any blockers. You’ll focus on proactive system monitoring, error resolution, and continuous improvement of our Azure Data Platform. Your work will centre on operationalising and automating the data lifecycle, integrating CI/CD data pipelines, streamlining deployment processes, enforcing robust data governance, and optimising operational costs. You’ll collaborate closely with Data Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and DevOps teams, and provide in and out of hours support as part of a rota. Flexibility is built in, with opportunities to collaborate across locations and upskill within a supportive team environment. Role Requirements You will have experience in DataOps, Data Engineering, or DevOps, and are eager to develop your skills in these areas. If you’re passionate about cloud data services and automation, we’d love to hear from you. Minimum Criteria To work confidently in this role, you will have: Demonstrable experience in DataOps, Data Engineering, DevOps, or related roles focused on managing data operations in complex, data-centric environments. Validated experience driving automation of data workflows within a cloud ecosystem. Strong interest in data pipeline monitoring and an understanding of data security practices such as RBAC and encryption. Implemented data and pipeline observability dashboards, ensuring high data quality, and improving the efficiency of data workflows. Experience ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and implementing robust data governance measures. Demonstrated ability to implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, to provision and manage data pipelines and associated resources. Essential Criteria In addition to your technical skills you will also: Work in a hybrid office / home environment and participate in an out of hours support rota. Have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with both technical and business colleagues. Be motivated to learn, upskill and improve yourself in both technical and relevant complementary soft skills. Desirable Criteria It would be beneficial, but not necessary, to already have: Proven experience in optimizing and scaling high-volume data operations within enterprise Azure environments. Hands-on expertise with Azure Data Platform components including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, Purview and APIM. Familiarity with Azure services that enhance data operational efficiency and support complex analytics. Exposure to Spark-based processing and advanced analytics techniques to further empower data-driven decision-making. Demonstrated expertise in performance tuning for cost efficiencies within an Azure-based data infrastructure. Proficiency in developing CI/CD data pipelines and strong programming skills in Python, SQL, Bash, and PySpark for automation. Relevant certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure DevOps, Databricks Data Engineer Professional, or equivalent credentials. Ability to build and manage the DataOps processes in a newly formed team which is planned to continue to expand over the next few months and years. Experience working within agile teams. We do not expect new joiners to have skills across all the technical areas we are looking for, but we do want you to enjoy learning and will support you to fill the gaps. The job has flexibility in working pattern, but you will be part of a support rota so, at times, your working hours will be more rigid. As part of the Data Services team, you’ll help shape and deliver the Bank’s cloud data platform, supporting colleagues across the organisation to make informed, data-driven decisions and ensuring our technology remains robust, secure, and future-ready. Salary and Benefits Information We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate. We offer a salary as follows: Leeds circa £40,320 - £45,360 In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below: Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time. A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool. An 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits. 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits. Private medical insurance and income protection. National Security Vetting Process Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
