Day Treatment Counselor – Liverpool Location
Overview
The Day Treatment Counselor will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive mental health support to students in a school setting. The role involves developing and implementing treatment plans that enhance students’ social, emotional, and behavioral functioning in school, at home, and in the community, while reflecting the perspectives of students, families, and other supports.
Day Treatment Counselors will:
- Conduct individual and group therapy
- Provide family support and case management
- Offer classroom support as needed
The Day Treatment program is expanding into Liverpool, offering an opportunity to join a burgeoning team as it grows.
About the Program
Racker is expanding its Day Treatment programs in partnership with OCM BOCES and local school districts to support young people with emotional and behavioral needs. Students benefit from comprehensive mental health services integrated into their academic programs.
As part of an integrated team, you’ll work alongside:
- Social workers
- Psychologists
- A child psychiatrist
- A psychiatric nurse practitioner
- A medication coordinator

The high staffing ratio ensures intensive assessment, mental health support, and skill-building for students aged 5–21 across eight participating school districts.
Position Type: Full-Time, In-Person Salary Range: $51,000–$61,000

Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Design and implement a comprehensive treatment program for each assigned student, focusing on social, emotional, and behavioral functioning in school, home, and community—aligned with student, family, and support team perspectives.
- Provide individual and group therapy to students.
- Act as a case manager, coordinating treatment goals with stakeholders.
- Deliver crisis intervention support to students in immediate need.
- Conduct assessments for diagnostic understanding, treatment planning, and crisis intervention.
- Offer and deliver a full range of family support and therapy services, ensuring families remain informed about progress.
- Share treatment-related information with the team.
- Maintain open, direct communication with colleagues and resolve discrepancies collaboratively.
- Participate in clinical supervision.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with Office of Mental Health and program guidelines.

Qualifications
Education/Certification
- A Master’s Degree in Social Work, LMSW, required within 60 days of hire.
- OR a Master’s Degree in a relevant mental health field, accompanied by appropriate certification in the specialty area.
Experience
- Clinical counseling experience is preferred.
- Experience with children & adolescents is advantageous.
- Familiarity with school-based settings is beneficial.
- Understanding of the needs of children with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges and their families is valued.
