DC Master Trust Technical Manager – London

The DC Master Trust Technical Manager will join Mercer’s team in London, reporting to the DC Governance and Oversight Leader. Working alongside the team, this role ensures enhanced regulatory compliance and operational oversight of Mercer’s DC Master Trusts, a market-leading service built on a member-first approach with robust governance.

This position provides a significant opportunity to:

  • Protect and advance the best interests of members while promoting a culture of safety and security through proactive governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders to identify, monitor, and communicate changes in applicable pensions law, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Provide ongoing technical expertise on DC pensions regulations, assisting those in legal and compliance functions.
  • Review documentation to ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations, pensions laws, and industry standards.
  • Contribute to DC Master Trust projects, particularly those involving regulatory/legislative changes and product enhancements.
  • Maintain oversight of third-party administrators’ compliance frameworks, offering guidance and challenge as needed.
  • Assess regulatory risks across schemes, assisting in their identification and management.
  • Escalate significant issues and regulatory risks to relevant stakeholders, including the Trustee and Scheme Strategist.
  • Review operational incidents for compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Act as a prominent voice at Trustee meetings and governance sessions, advising trustees and strategists on operational compliance matters.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Mercer’s Master Trust business, translating complex information clearly for all levels.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with operational and third-party administrative teams, promoting a best-practice approach.

Essential Requirements

  • Broad technical knowledge of Master Trusts, with a strong focus on DC pension schemes.
  • In-depth expertise in DC pensions, including administrative processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Deep familiarity with regulatory obligations, including TPR (The Pensions Regulator) requirements.
  • Proven experience working with senior and external stakeholders, including regulators and trustees.
