Role: Dealership Accountant (6 Month Fixed-Term Contract)

Location: Mercedes-Benz of Tonbridge Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time – 6 Month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) Hours: Monday to Friday, 09.30 AM – 17.30 PM (37.5 hours per week) Salary: Competitive

Welcome to the Accounts Department – Where Everybody Counts!

Join a fun and exciting accounting team where you’ll balance budgets, close period ends, and generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. If you’re passionate about balancing balance sheets, analysing budgets, and staying technically sharp, this role is for you!

Ideal candidates will have proven experience in accountancy, ideally within the motoring industry, though relevant experience elsewhere will be considered. You’ll need:

  • Business acumen to navigate intricate logistics
  • Articulate communication with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Investigative and analytical skills with an organised, ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Strong ability to work alongisde a varied team, collaborating with Financial Business Partners

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
  • Support period-end closures
  • Conduct financial analysis as needed

General Ledger & Reconciliation

  • Maintain the General Ledger
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet items

Accounts Payable / Receivable

  • Manage vendor payments, ensuring timely settlements
  • Oversee customer collections and resolve billing discrepancies

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Track vehicle/parts inventory accuracy
  • Perform floor plan reconciliations

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure adherence to policies, GAAP, and tax regulations
  • Assist with internal audits and reinforce controls across departments

Tax & Filing Support

  • Assist with tax reporting (sales, property, income)
  • Collaborate with external auditors as required

Management Support

  • Provide financial insights for decision-making
  • Assist with strategic budgeting and forecasts

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on accountancy experience, ideally in high fleet account volumes (preferably within the motor trade).
  • Pinewood / Kerridge account software experience is advantageous (but not essential—training will be provided).
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and confident in navigating complex processes.
  • Strong ability to resolve discrepancies, cover multiple deadlines, and improve systematic accuracy.
