Citizens Advice Hounslow – Job Opportunity: Experienced Debt Caseworker

Citizens Advice Hounslow is a well-established charity serving the London Borough of Hounslow. We work to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people who come to us for support. Our high-quality, agile advice service responds to the issues and needs of our community, always putting people first.

Thanks to our dedicated team of staff and volunteers, we support over 16,000 clients each year through our face-to-face, telephone, and digital services.

We are looking for an experienced Debt Caseworker to join our team to help meet the growing demand for debt and income-maximisation advice.


About the Role

In this role, you will guide and empower clients to understand their options while taking direct action on behalf of those who are particularly vulnerable. This includes:

  • Negotiating with creditors to prevent escalation and protect clients from further financial harm.
  • Delivering detailed debt advice, ensuring clients can regain control of their finances.
  • Empowering clients to make informed decisions about their situation.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive Debt Assessment: Conduct in-depth evaluations of each client’s financial situation to determine the most suitable resolutions.
  • Dealing with Creditors: Take action to halt creditor enforcement, prepare accurate financial statements, and explore strategies to reduce, write off, and manage debt.
  • Income Maximisation: Apply for benefits and maximise income to alleviate financial pressures.
  • Budget Planning: Provide tailored budgeting guidance to help clients build long-term financial stability.
  • Third-Party Collaboration: Work confidently with external agencies—such as local authorities, bailiffs, landlords, and lenders—to prevent enforcement action and resolve arrears.
  • Operational Support: Develop and maintain accurate case records, update systems, and ensure all advice is in line with current legislative standards.

Requirements

  • Experience in Casework: Prior experience as a Debt Caseworker, Financial Adviser, or similar role in an advice or welfare service.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex financial situations and identify appropriate courses of action.
  • Positive Communication: Excellent interpersonal abilities—empathy, clarity, and the ability to explain financial information confidently.
  • Negotiation & Persuasion: Skilled in dealing tactfully with creditors and other third parties.
  • Self-Motivation & Professionalism: Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using advice systems like AdviserPro or similar; experience with Microsoft Office desired.
