Debt Recovery Solicitor

Head of Legal Practice
Role Overview
The Head of Legal Practice / Senior Solicitor will:
- Deliver high-quality commercial debt litigation services
- Act as the firm’s subject-matter SRA-nominated Supervising Solicitor, ensuring regulatory compliance and ethical practice
- Lead the firm’s Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) responsibility, safeguarding against financial crime
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring:
- Strong technical expertise in litigation, enforcement, and insolvency
- Effective leadership skills to manage teams and strategy
Role Responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice and representation in:
- Commercial debt recovery (including unpaid invoices)
- Breach of contract claims
- Insolvency matters (bankruptcy petitions, winding-up orders, administrations)
- Enforcement action (charging orders, warrants of control, third-party debt orders)
- Implement and maintain SRA-compliant supervision, following Mazur case guidelines
Team & Compliance Leadership
- Line-manage Assistant Solicitors and develop Paralegals
- Ensure staff competency, continuous professional development, and regulatory compliance (ethical + legal)
- Assess talent risk and provide mentorship

Litigation & Case Management
- Oversee complex cases from start to finish, including:
- Drafting legal statements and evidence
- Negotiating settlements
- Enforcing decisions post-judgment
- Conduct litigation risk evaluation, advising on procedural strategy, cost proportionality, and dispute resolution
- Stay updated on case law, legislation, and practice (CPRs, Late Payment Act, Insolvency Act 1986, Enterprise Act 2002)
Financial Crime & Compliance
- Ensure robust AML procedures (CDD, sanctions screening, risk assessments)
- Alert COLP (Chief Legal Professional) on regulatory breaches or threats to liability
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with:
- Clients, counsel, expert witnesses, insolvency practitioners
- Cross-practice teams (e.g., corporate restructuring, asset tracing)
- Review & approve legal templates (client letters, pleadings) for alignment with standards
Key Experience & Qualifications
- Fully-qualified solicitor practicing in England & Wales without conditions
- Minimum 8 years’ PQE in:
- Commercial debt litigation (including enforcement, insolvency)
- Insolvency practices: CVAs, IVAs, liquidations, administrations
- Higher Rights of Audience (Civil) desirable for advocacy (higher courts)
- Supervisory experience: Proven track record managing teams in literature environments
- Regulatory expertise: Strong understanding of SRA compliance frameworks, risk management, and ethical standards
Core Skills & Attitudes
- Analytical & resilience: High-pressure work with strict deadlines
- Communication: Clear, persuasive verbal + written advice to clients/collaborators
- Organisation: Ability to prioritise multiple competing demands
- Tech proficiency: Microsoft Office + case management platforms

Debt Solicitor
Role Overview
Supporting the Head of Legal Practice, this role focuses on delivering reliable debt collection across commercial, litigation, and insolvency matters.
Role Responsibilities
- Advise and represent in:
- Unpaid invoice recovery
- Breach of contract claims
- Insolvency disputes (bankruptcy, winding-up orders)
- Enforcement processes (writs, third-party debt orders)
Wider Support & Compliance
- Coordinate Paralegal development through coaching and guidance
- Provide early risk assessments on cases
- Maintain up-to-date case law knowledge and A2P strategic expertise
Operational Accountability
- Support file audits and quality checks across litigation work
- Collaborate internally (counsel, business teams) on complex matters
- Uphold regulatory compliance
Key Requirements
- Qualified solicitor (current practising certificate)
- Minimum 2 years’ PQE in:
- Commercial litigation (with enforcement focus)
- Insolvency practices (CVAs, IVAs, liquidations)
- Deep knowledge of SRA regulatory obligations, AML procedures + Civil Procedure Rules
- Analytical problem-solving: Substantive results in debt litigation
- Clear communication + client confidentiality handling
