Here at GXO, we are looking for an experienced Defence & Nuclear Operations Security Controller to join us covering the UK & IE. This is a new position and holds all the opportunity and importance to make it your own. You will provide end-to-end security and export-control oversight across GXO Defence and Nuclear contracts, ensuring full compliance with statutory, regulatory and customer security requirements.
The role acts as or Defence and Nuclear security, controlling regulated goods, classified information, personnel vetting, and export compliance, while maintaining audit-ready governance across highly regulated environments.

This is a full time, permanent position, working Monday to Friday, 09:00 till 17:00, however, we do ask for some flexibility and the ability to travel, this is logistics after all!

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £68,000.00 per annum, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). - You will own and maintain the Business Unit Security & Export Control Plan for Defence and Nuclear contracts, ensuring compliance with Section 5 (Firearms Act 1968), UK Export Control Order 2008, ITAR, EAR, and Nuclear-specific controls
- You’ll act as lead for Section 5 and Civil Air Authority (CAA) regulated goods, including secure storage, access control, registers, renewals, and regulatory liaison
- You will understand process and handling requirements for the export categorisations, as defined by the customer, for goods and technology under UKML, Dual-Use, ITAR (USML) and EAR (CCL) and determine appropriate controls for (DSP’s, ECCN’s, OGEL, OIEL, SIEL and systems SPIRE, LITE, F680)
- Liaising with Security & Loss Prevention, operate and assure layered physical security controls (access control, CCTV, restricted areas, alarms) aligned to Defence and Nuclear customer requirements
- Protect classified (Protectively Marked) and controlled information in line with Security Aspects Letters (SALs), Nuclear security requirements, and GXO information governance
What you need to succeed at GXO:
- Relevant Defence and/or nuclear security or compliance or logistics qualification (or equivalent experience) is essential
- Must be able to attain UKI security clearance (UKI Citizen) or previously cleared advantageous (To SC level)
- Investigation to Root Cause Analysis level and CAPA processes
- Demonstrable experience in Defence and/or Nuclear regulated environments, with strong working knowledge of: Section 5 firearms controls, UK Export Controls, ITAR / EAR fundamentals, Customer SALs, Defence customer security procedural requirements (JSP’s etc)
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory inspections
- Demonstrable experience operating in regulated Defence or Regulated contract environments. Recent experience would be preferable
- Must be able to travel throughout the UK & IE and hold a full UK driving license
