Tetra Tech Geo-environmental Team Apprentice
Tetra Tech is looking for an Apprentice to join our Geo-environmental Team, the role can be based in Bristol or Cardiff. The position will suit someone with a real interest in geology and contaminated land who enjoys a balance of office and site works and travelling.
What you'll do at work
You’ll be working both in the office and site-based activities that could include:
- Site based environmental monitoring such as water and soil sampling
- Site based support for our ground investigation projects
- Preparing information and undertaking assessments to support environmental desk study appraisals and subsequent assessments
- Environmental data entry and management, becoming familiar with industry data formats including software packages for the management of geotechnical and Geo-environmental data
- Geological appraisal
- Working individually (with supervision) or as part of a site team
- Helping prepare factual reports

Course contents
Integrate and critically evaluate information from different sources to test findings and hypotheses.
Consider, appraise and inform ground related issues to multidisciplinary teams.
Define complex geoscience related problems, a strategy to understand the problem and evaluate possible solutions. For example: resource scarcity, foundations, sustainability energy supply.
Test geological models to inform and design investigations.
Plan, conduct and present independent geoscientific projects with appropriate guidance.
Consider inconsistencies and uncertainty and gaps in data when developing geological models.
Apply geoscientific theories, paradigms, concepts and principles.
Conduct and supervise fieldwork, geoscience mapping and laboratory investigations as appropriate and in accordance with safe working practices and legal requirements.
Apply appropriate numerical, statistical, geostatistical and qualitative techniques in the evaluation of data and information.
Utilise digital technologies, instrumentation and remote sensing for the collection, analysis and modelling of data.

Training schedule
During your apprenticeship, we will provide a designated mentor to support you in your role & development and there will be opportunities to learn from the wider team which includes a range of technical experts in areas such as:
- Ground investigatio
- Logging of soils and rock
- Environmental monitoring
- Human health, controlled waters and gas risk assessmen
- Desk studies and Preliminary Risk Assessment
- Minerals appraisals
- Coal mining risk assessments
- Ground engineering appraisals
- Waste classification and material reuse
Successful completion of this course will enable you to confidently advance in this industry. You could progress your skills further by training as a chartered geologist/scientist.

- Geology (grade B)
- Maths (grade B)
- Physics (grade B)
