About the Role
Join our thriving team as we welcome you into a fully-funded, hands-on electro-mechanical engineering degree apprenticeship. You will split your time between academic study at the University of Nottingham (part-time) and practical work experience at Sesame Access Systems Ltd while contributing to our innovative projects.
As an apprentice, you will enjoy accelerated, demonstrable growth in engineering—both on-site and across international locations where Sesame installs its lifts. Our skillful team, with cumulative 200 years of industry experience, welcomes you to develop between manufacturing, installation, and service of our award-winning Sesame wheelchair lifts.
Key Opportunities
- Hands-on experience alongside academic study: Earning a fully-funded BEng (Hons) in Electro-mechanical Engineering through blended learning. The block-release programme, spanning 5.5 years, will deepen your technical and management expertise regularly.

Why Join Us?
Our Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship programme is a strongly revelled track with proven success. Our previous applicants proved outstanding performance:
- We now invite the third Level 6 apprentice, with benchmark standards fully established.
- Current trainee: Starts April 2022 and achieved 4th year exams successfully, targeted for a 2:1 Honours Degree.
- Future graduates: The second season of the programme, launched in September 2025, excels with successful completion of first-year exams.
- Track record: Traineeship supported by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Responsibilities
- Develop and extend technical skills: Intermediate electro-mechanical engineering in practical, varied projects.
- Global operations: Engage directly in local and international engineering lifts maintenance, diagnostics, and innovations.
- Engineering solutions: Problem-solving and design integrity refinements as part of the team.
- Adaptability: Flexibility in travel and response to worldwide job demands.
Entry Requirements
To ensure you thrive in our apprenticeship, meet these criteria or equivalents:
- Academic CGSE Requirements:
- 5 GCSEs, including:
- Grade 4 or above in English language,
- Grade 5 or above in maths,
- Other subjects will be reviewed case-by-case.
- 5 GCSEs, including:
- Higher-Level Background:
- 3 A-levels: with at least a Grade B in maths, and a minimum of two other A-levels achieving Grade B. Note: Citizenship skills, general studies, or critical thinking are not applicable.
Alternative pathways also accepted:
- Relevant BTEC engineering qualifications, relevant assessable apprenticeship.
- Demostrate prior relevant work experience within engineering/service contexts.
- Case-by-case evaluation for graduation equivalents.

Competitive starting salary: £26,000, with room for salary escalations based on continuous performance.

- Standard working days: 45 hours per week (Mon to Fri, 7am–4pm), with voluntary overtime on Saturdays when needed.

Location & Travel
