Director, Pharma & Clinical Transformation – AI & Digital Delivery

About the Role

The Director of Pharma & Clinical Transformation leads the delivery of AI and digital initiatives within regulated environments, with responsibility for portfolio governance, stakeholder management, and end-to-end execution of transformation programs. This critical role ensures compliance, alignment with business goals, and timely delivery across pharma, clinical, and R&D domains.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Oversee multi-program governance across Clinical Data Management, safety systems, and AI-powered initiatives.
  • Bridge regulatory, quality, medical, and operational stakeholders to deliver business-critical outcomes.
  • Drive innovation in AI/GenAI, ML, and advanced analytics while ensuring responsible, scalable execution.
  • Act as the primary interface between executives, delivery teams, and strategic partners.

Key Responsibilities

Pharma & Clinical Domain Delivery

  • Manage program delivery in GxP (regulated) environments, ensuring compliance and quality.
  • Lead Clinical Data Management and pharmacovigilance transformation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Medical Affairs, and Clinical Operations to align programs with critical compliance requirements.

Multi-Program Portfolio Governance

  • Own and govern a portfolio of concurrent programs across Pharma, Clinical, and R&D, ensuring strategic alignment.
  • Chair Program Steering Committees, manage executive reporting, and oversee governance cadences.
  • Define and enforce delivery standards, stage gates, and KPIs for the entire portfolio.
  • Manage cross-program dependencies, risk registers, and blockers proactively.

AI & Digital Transformation Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end AI-powered transformation, including GenAI, ML model deployment, intelligent automation, and advanced analytics.
  • Work with AI Architects, Data Scientists, and Product teams to translate AI strategy into roadmaps and executable plans.
  • Deploy AI use cases across:
    • Clinical Trial Operations
    • Drug Discovery
    • Regulatory Affairs
    • Pharmacovigilance
    • R&D Pipelines
  • Champion innovation, experimentation, and responsible AI within delivery teams.

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

  • Serve as the primary C-suite contact, building trusted relationships with:
    • Business sponsors
    • Technology partners
    • Regulatory bodies
  • Communicate program status, risks, financials, and strategic recommendations clearly and confidently.
  • Drive change management and business readiness for transformed capabilities.

Team Leadership & Delivery Excellence

  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performance delivery teams (onshore, offshore, hybrid).
  • Establish agile, Scaled Agile (SAFe), and hybrid delivery frameworks.
  • Drive continuous improvement via:
    • Lessons learned
    • Retrospectives
    • Delivery maturity assessments

Required Qualifications & Experience

Experience

  • 12+ years of progressive delivery management experience, with at least 5 years managing multi-program portfolios of significant scale and complexity.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering AI, ML, or intelligent automation programs in a commercial setting.
  • Deep expertise in Pharmaceutical, Clinical Research, or R&D environments, with a strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to deliver in regulated environments.
  • Track record of end-to-end digital transformation, from strategy to adoption.

Technical Skills

  • AI & Analytics:
    • Generative AI, ML pipelines, RAG architectures, NLP, computer vision, and AI governance frameworks.
  • Data & Integration:
    • Data governance, Master Data Management (MDM), API-led integration, data lake/warehouse architectures, real-world data (RWD).
  • Systems & Tools:
    • Veeva Vault, Oracle Clinical, Argus Safety Clinical Systems.
    • Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow.

  • Strong strategic thinking – ability to translate vision into executable plans.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP, PgMP, or MSP certification
  • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), Agile Coach, or equivalent
  • MBA or advanced degree in:
    • Life Sciences
    • Computer Science
    • Engineering or Business
  • Experience with:
    • CROs (Contract Research Organizations)
    • CDMOs (Contract Development & Manufacturing Organizations)
    • Regulatory agencies
    • Global pharma partners
  • Six Sigma, PRINCE2, or ITIL certifications (desirable)
